프렌즈 시즌 1-1-5

Monica: Just breathe, breathe.. that's it. Just try (to think of) nice calm things...

Phoebe: (sings) Raindrops on roses and rabbits and kittens, (Rachel and Monica turn to look at her.) bluebells and sleighbells and- something with mittens... La la la la... something and noodles with string.  These are a few...

Rachel: I'm all better now.

**all 부사. (비격식) 아주, 몹시

** I'm feeling much better now=Now I'm so much better.

 

Phoebe: (grins and walks to the kitchen and says to Chandler and Joey.) I helped!

Monica: Okay, look, this is probably for the best, y'know? Independence. Taking control of your life.   The whole, 'hat' thing.

* This is for the best 이게 최선의 방법이었소

**take control of ~을 장악, 지배하다

 

Joey: (comforting her) And hey, you need anything, you can always come to Joey. Me and Chandler live right across the hall. And he's away a lot. 

* 위치, 방향: It's around the corner./It's across the street./  It's down the street./It's next to the bank

 It's on the left.

*How do I get to ~? ~에 어떻게 가야 하죠? 

*My father is not here, he's away in Chicago.

   He's away on business./ He's away for work.    

          

Monica: Joey, stop hitting on her! It's her wedding day!

*hit on (성적으로 끌리는 사람에게) 수작을 걸다.

 

Joey: What, like there's a rule or something?

*like(접속사, 비격식 ~같은,~한 것처럼) 비아냥 거릴 때 많이 쓰임

 

Chandler: Please don't do that again, it's a horrible sound.

Paul: (over the intercom) It's, uh, it's Paul.

Monica: Oh God, is it 6:30?  Buzz him in!

*Buzz in: 도착하다, 들어오다 

     Buzz him in(그에게 물을 열어줘)

 

Joey: Who's Paul?

Ross: Paul the Wine Guy, Paul?

Monica: Maybe. 

Joey: Wait. Your 'not a real date' tonight is with Paul the Wine Guy?

Ross: He finally asked you out?

Monica: Yes!

Chandler: Ooh, this is a Dear Diary moment.

*Dear diary moment 기록에 남겨야 할 중요한 순간, 역사적인 순간.

 

Monica: Rach, wait, I can cancel...

Rachel: Please, no, go, that'd be fine!

*That would be fine 좋습니다. 

 

Monica: (to Ross) Are, are you okay? Do want me to stay?

* do는 강조의 의미(주어는 생략)

 

Ross: (choked voice) That'd be good...

*That would be good 그게 좋겠습니다.

 

Monica: (horrified) Really?

Ross: (normal voice) No, go on! It's Paul the Wine Guy!

Phoebe: What does that mean?   Does he sell it, drink it, or just complain a lot? (Chandler doesn't know.)

(There's a knock on the door and it's Paul.)

*does는 조동사일 경우 불분명하고 아주 빠르게 발음(슈와 현상으로 아주 약하게 '더즈')

 

Monica: Hi, come in! Paul, this is... everybody, everybody, this is Paul.

All: Hey! Paul! Hi! The Wine Guy! Hey!

Chandler: I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name. Paul, was it?

Monica: Okay, umm-umm, I'll just--I'll be right back, I just gotta go ah, go ah...

**I'll be right back 금방 돌아올게/I'll be right there  금방 그리고 갈게

   I'll be right out 금방 나갈게.

** gotta go (got to go) 가야겠어, 떠나야겠어.

Ross: A wandering?

*wandering 산책, 방랑

 

Monica: Change!  Okay, sit down. (Shows Paul in) Two seconds.

Phoebe: Ooh, I just pulled out four eyelashes. That can't be good.

(Monica goes to change.)

Joey:  Hey, Paul!

Paul: Yeah?

Joey: Here's a little tip, she really likes it when you rub her neck in the same spot over and over and over again until it starts to get a little red.

Monica: (yelling from the bedroom) Shut up, Joey!

Ross: So Rachel, what are you, uh... what're you up to tonight?

*What are you up to? 요즘 잘 지내?/뭐하고 지내? 대답;not too bad/noghing much

 

Rachel: Well, I was kinda supposed to be headed for Aruba on my honeymoon, so nothing!

*be supposed to '

     1) It is supposed to + it is said to ~으로 알려져 있다, 여겨진다

            The book is supposed to be very good.

     2) It is planned, arranged or expected.~하기로 되어있다(결과는 안 함)

     3) It is advisable ( noat allowed) ~해야 한다( ~하면 안 된다)

             Where am I supposed to sit? (must보다는 세련된 표현)       

**be headed for ~으로 향하다 The bus is headed for Seoul

**on (요일, 날짜, 때를 나타내어)~에

         Sunday/ on your birthday/on one occasion/on your birthday  

     

Ross: Right, you're not even getting your honeymoon, God.. No, no, although, Aruba, this time of year... talk about your- (thinks) -big lizards... Anyway, if you don't feel like being alone tonight, Joey and Chandler are coming over to help me put together my new furniture.

*be~ing현재 진행형; 미래 표현 (~할 예정이야,~할 계획이다 )

         미리 준비해둔 일을 말할 때 사용/ 주로 미래 시간 부사구와 쓰임

         I'm studying in the library later/We are visiting her house tonight.

*feel like ~할 마음이 나다

*come over(to) (특히 누구의 집에) 들르다

*put together: 만들다, 조립하다

 

Chandler: (deadpan) Yes, and we're very excited about it.

Rachel: Well actually thanks, but I think I'm just gonna hang out here tonight.  It's been kinda a long day.

* hang out ~에서 많은 시간을 보내다

*It has been a long time since~한 이후로 꽤 오랜 시간이 흘렀다.

      - it's been a long time since I graduated from my high school.

* It's been a long day 힘든 하루였어

 

Ross: Okay, sure.

Joey: Hey Pheebs, you wanna help?

Phoebe: Oh, I wish I could, but I don't want to.
